Investigator fees

For ordinary abandoned property held by the California State Controller, California law generally limits an investigator's fee to no more than 10% of the property actually recovered. An agreement may not require payment before the State Controller approves the claim and pays the recovered property.

Different fee rules may apply to certain County Probated Estate matters. Any applicable fee will be stated in a written agreement before PALOMIRIS is retained.

Disclosure before agreement

Before entering an investigator agreement for ordinary abandoned property, PALOMIRIS will disclose the nature and reported value of the property, that the California State Controller is in possession of the property, and how the owner may claim the property directly.

No guarantee of recovery

Identifying a reported property record does not establish legal entitlement to the property. The California State Controller's Office determines whether a claimant has provided sufficient evidence and whether a claim will be approved and paid.
